Beta Sigma Chapter at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

SALUTING & CHANTING
Saluting is a tradition unique to Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. This sacred tradition has been passed down from line to line, from chapter to chapter, and serves the purpose of honoring brothers or displaying the history of Lambda. Saluting can be best described as "poetry in motion" as it combines spoken word with unified movement to tell a story. Salutes exist on a national and local scale, with chapters focusing on their establishment and lines that came thereafter. You will often see brothers saluting at important events to show their pride and passion for Lambda for the world to see.

In addition to saluting, Lambdas engage in chanting to tell history. Different chapters have adopted different styles of chanting, but they typically relay similar information regardless. For example, some chapters choose to march while reciting a chant, while others focus on the spoken word. Chants can also have a variety of structures when displayed to others. Some chants may incorporate a call and response structure, while others may incorporate singing. The variety that exists in this tradition makes displays exciting and unique as brothers enrich others with critical information about the history of Lambda.
